This week, the thrilling finale to "D'Aulnoy Souls":
We've come to the end of our dear d'Aulnoy's adventures. Now you know the whole story. How she came about, her rise to lordship, and what memories torment her so to write the stories she's written. It's definitely all true, and wasn't just an excuse for me to cram videogames onto the podcast.
And so we bid farewell for now, at least until an expansion comes out
Thank you d'Aulnoy, for all that you do
Thanks everyone who watched along and enjoyed my little experiment here, hiccups and all, I appreciate that you saw fit to spend some of your time with me on this ride. 'Til next time!
It's been a long, arduous journey for digi-d'Aulnoy, but the end is in sight. This week, we pop over to the Archdragon Peak for one last test of our mettle before we see this thing to it's conclusion.
She's starting to sport some stress wrinkles, methinks
Time for a spa day
Like a mudbath or something, that'd be nice...
Does d'Aulnoy have the stuff to call herself dragon? Can she muster the power within her to walk the path? There's only one man who can tell us for sure, and it's time to settle the score
Speaking of scores to settle, there's also an old, long forgotten God standing between d'Aulnoy and victory
And if we've learned anything about our dear old d'Aulnoy, it is her favorite and only pastime to take mythical beings and really just tear them some new buttholes
Pictured: soon to be "Butthole-less King"
Here's the episode in video form, if you'd like to see the ol' girl in action:
Next week will be the final installment of "D'Aulnoy Souls". Thanks for sticking it out with me!
This week...well, i'll let the video speak for itself this time. D'Aulnoy was really put through the ringer this time, but she perservered and became stronger for it:
We're closing in on the conclusion of our adventure, be sure to tune in next time!
This week find's d'Aulnoy contending with spooky skelemen down in the catacombs, making new friends in the chilly town of Irithyll, and having the most badass, anime fight with a giant that the game could possibly muster. Two more Lords of Cinder fall this week, leaving only one before the end of this journey.
All in all, a good week for her, and her spirits are high
Shaka Brah
But next week...
She faces her toughest challenge yet, the largest personal roadblock I faced in the entire game. Stay tuned!
Another week is in the can, and that means it's time to check in on ol' d'Aulnoy's misadventures in the land of Lothric.
What to expect this week:
Shitty Magicians (TM)
Cooky Slapstick Antics (TM)
A Cool Puppy (TM)
Our "heroine" made it out pretty unscathed last week, but this time, the game starts hitting back. This is Dark Souls, after all. D'Aulnoy also appears to be letting herself go, vis a vis face appearance, but we're not here to judge or shame.
It's exactly what I'm here to do...
But the worst for d'Aulnoy is yet to come. Spoilers.
If you've listened to the podcast for any length of time now, you've probably gotten the sense that I'm a fan of nerdy pop culture. You know I have a penchant for videogames, cartoons, anime and the like. But of course I do, I'm an animator, it sorta comes with that territory. You've also probably noticed (and hopefully developed your own) frustration and consternation with the output of one Marie-Catherine Le Jumel de Barneville, the Baroness d’Aulnoy.
This lady, right here
D'Aulnoy, and her flippant disregard of story structure, character development, and brevity has kept me up many a night, and had me pulling out my hair during the recordings where we were graced with her "prose". It's gotten to the point where I've found myself in need of cathartic release. So, I've turned to a favorite medium of mine for deliverance from the wicked shanks she's hooked into my brain: Videogames!
To be extra more specific, the Souls series from the fine folks at From Software. I knew that when Dark Souls 3 released, I had my avatar prepared. I knew exactly who I wanted to smash and grind against monster after horrible monster:
This lady, right here
And so, dearest listeners/readers/watchers, I've taken it upon myself to reconstruct the life story of our friend d'Aulnoy within the confines of Dark Souls 3, to perhaps give some much needed context to her writing habits.
But I mostly just want a digital ghost to torture for her word crimes.
I chose the class 'Herald'. Seemed thematically appropriate
So, each week, I'll be posting here and on Youtube for you all to check in on her continuing escapades in the crumbling land of Lothric, collecting inspiration for her twisted, meandering masterpieces, until we finish this thing together, her and I, and learn the meaning of teamwork, or friendship, or some shit like that.
I know that feeling all too well, broski
So, If it pleases you, stick around, leave a comment if the spirit overtakes you, and let's see where this goes together. It's sure to be a jolly good time.
